The Meaning Of My Song "Love"

My BFF died on December 9th. Eleven days before his 33rd birthday. It was a Sunday. His name was Shlomo in short Shlom' or Shlomi. Although he didn't like Shlomi as a nickname because he was not a kid anymore. He was married to Shlomit. They had no children.

It has been now a couple of years since he left. Unfortunately from BFF (best friends forever) the last "F" was not meant for us.

Our friendship started with a feud between us in school. Our teacher Mr. Steen ordered that we had to share a table in class. I wasn't pleased with sitting next to him because Shlomo was Jewish and I am German and back then I had a couple of nasty friends who politely said just had discovered the man with the weird Charley Chaplin mustache who didn't like Jews very much back in the days of Germanys darkest history.

But Shlomo and I we got to know each other and then eventually we became friends, BFFs or like he liked to call us: "Soul Brothers".

He was the one who got me into music. He was the one who believed that I had something to give to the world with my songs. He was the one who encouraged me never to give up and to pursue my destiny. He knew that I was growing up in a dysfunctional family that is why he once told me that he never wanted to weigh his problems on my shoulders because I had enough to endure through my parents. He wanted me to see him happy so that I could feel happy too, at least as long as we spent time together.

And now he is gone, forever and sometimes it still hurts because some memories the valuable ones will live on in me.

"Love" is based on a story he told me. He lived in Israel (la haretz) and I was once visiting him in spring. And on one occasion  he told me this story in which the whole country stood still for a whole minute. No car drove. No person moved. All still for a whole minute. I do not remember what the event was but I was so impressed by that story that when he died I used this image for my song because this was how I felt when I heard that he had left through the backdoor of this world.

And then there was this one time when I wanted to write a postcard back home and he said: "Write, I wish you were here." I didn't write it on the postcard but I did write it in my song: "I wish you were here today."

The Jewish boy who became best friends with the German boy. We changed the world, man. We really changed the world. Thanks Shlom' that you were my best friend.

With "Love" I honor him, I say good-bye to him, I grieve about him and I remember him as the good person he was to me.

Yours,
Ysander

Love (Pure Mix)

A moment of silence
The earth didn't move
for a second nearly imperceptible

No raindrop fell
No star wandered around
No car drove
No person breathed

No wind blew
No words spoken

All still
The world held its breath

All still
The world held its breath

As an angel left
Quietly

Through the backdoor of this world
Set out free

For his way back home
His way back home

A wise man, a husband, a brother and son
A beloved person not only by his wife
A friend misses you too

You brought the sun to everyone
You gave a smile to the persons in your life
What else could you do?

I wish you were here today
Here today

I loved you Shlom'

Love (Full Of Hope Mix)

I'm missing you

A moment of silence
The earth didn't move
for a second nearly imperceptible

No raindrop fell
No star wandered around
No car drove
No person breathed

No wind blew
No words spoken

All still
The world held its breath

All still
The world held its breath

As an angel left
Quietly

Through the backdoor of this world
Set out free

For his way back home
His way back home

A wise man, a husband, a brother and son
A beloved person not only by his wife
A friend misses you too

You brought the sun to everyone
You gave a smile to the persons in your life
What else could you do?

I wish you were here today
Here today

I loved you Shlom'
(I loved you Samuel)

But life goes on with or without you
It's no shame to be left back
Yeah, life goes on with or without you
It's no shame to be left back
My life goes on with or without you
It's no shame to be left back
It's no shame to feel the pain of missing you
I'm missing you
I'm missing you
